Active search underway for wanted man

MCDUFFIE & WARREN COUNTIES, Ga. (WRDW)- Georgia State Patrol is assisting in a search for a wanted man.

Jason Broome has warrants out for his arrest concerning his possible part in thefts from vehicles including using stolen credit cards and possession of stolen property in McDuffie County, according to McDuffie County Sheriff's Office.

MCSO said the Department of Natural Resources enforcement officers spotted Broome and a female companion, Melissa Herring, near Ridge Road this morning.

The two jumped out of the car and ran into the woods. Herring was caught and is in custody.

GSP is using a helicopter in the area to try and spot Broome, MCSO said.

The Thomson Police Department is also assisting in the search. The department's tracking dog and handler and one additional officer are part of the search team.

Columbia County Sheriff's Office also confirms the agency’s K-9s and handlers are assisting with the search.

Broome has yet to be found as of 1 p.m. on Friday.
