ACSO reporting 22 car break-ins within past few days

Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. -- Cpt. Troy Elwell has confirmed there have been 22 known breaking and entering automobile cases within the past few days in Warrenville, Gloverville and Graniteville.

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office says the incidents are related and that they have few different leads. Various items were stolen, including purses and radios.

Elwell says the break-ins weren't technically break-ins.

"Most of these vehicles are left unlocked. So individuals are just going up, opening the door and getting what they want out of them," he said. "But needless to say, we do have somebody in that area stealing stuff out of automobiles."

Investigators say one or two people could be behind the thefts.
