NEWBERRY CTY, S.C. – One man is in custody for a shooting in Newberry County last week.
Investigators say three people were standing in a yard on Gray Street in the Helena community when a van drove into the area and began firing at the people in the yard. Three people were struck by bullets, with all injuries being to the lower extremities.
A van matching the description of the one used in the shooting was found a short while later, abandoned in a ditch near the shooting.
Investigators identified two suspects, and warrants were issued for Michael Dewayne Wise and Anthony Tyrone Wise, both from Prosperity, S.C.
Anthony Wise turned himself in to law enforcement officials Friday morning and is being detained at the Newberry County detention center.
Michael Wise remains at large.
Investigators believe the shooting was in retaliation to a previous shooting incident in the city of Newberry. The weapon involved, a shotgun, has not been recovered.
