AUGUSTA, Ga. - A child molester will remain behind bars for 3 more years.
Carlton Johnson was sentenced to 10 years in prison with 10 years probation for child molestation.
Johnson was volunteering at Good Shepherd Baptist Church when he molested a 14 year-old boy at the time and the boy's sister.
He was in court Wednesday trying to appeal his original sentence. Johnson hoped to get off on probation.
Judge Overstreet ruled on the case and didn't let that happen.
He sentenced Johnson to 8 years in prison followed by 7 years probation.
During the hearing, Johnson admitted to molesting the two children and apologized in court.
But the family says, Johnson can't take back what he did. A spokesperson for the family, Brother Garcia, says the family was pleased with the court's decision but had hoped for a tougher punishment.
"The family is grieving. They're going through a lot of hardship and it's going to take a while for them to mend back. That's a heinous crime that that man committed. He should have really been sentenced to a life sentence," said Garcia.
