Sex offender receives reduced sentence in appeal

September 12, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---Carlton Johnson was back in court today after winning a bid for an appeal. He entered a guilty plea and received a reduced sentence of eight years, with seven years probation.

Johnson was convicted of molesting a 14-year-old boy and his sister. At the time he was volunteering at Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

He was sentenced to ten years in prison and ten years probation after his first trial, and has served about four years of that sentence. With his new sentence, he will be in jail for about four more years.

The victims' family was pleased with Judge Carlisle Overstreet's decision.

i believe that anyone who molesting any child should get what ever the judge gives them. For one they have no right or buss to be messing wihtn a little child. The kid didn'tdo anything to getwhat these people are doing to them. so i real do not feel bad for what they get. It would hurt me to death for someone to do that to me child and i have a lillte girl. People like thatshould not even be able to get out, cause when they get out they are going to do it agian to someone elses child. If someone hurts my daughter i hope they will never see the outside world again.Stop letting these freaks out into our streets

What is happening with our justice system? This man should not be put back on the street, he will do the same crime again, but his victim might not come forward the next time. He is a child molester, pedophile, monster, and no amount of prison time, therapy or rehabilitation will help him. How many lives will he have to ruin before something is done?? Lock him up and throw away the key!!
