Firefighter arrested for breaking into house

September 10, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---A Martinez firefighter is in the Richmond County jail after deputies say he broke into a neighbor's home.

34-year-old Stephen Weddle of Telfair Street was arrested last night and charged with criminal trespass.

Investigators say Weddle broke a window and entered the home across the street. He told deputies he was trying to find illegal drugs to turn over to police.

Investigators say Weddle was trying to do the right thing, but went about it the wrong way.

Hello!!! I just found out about this and I'm shocked!! I sold his girlfriend the house they are living in. This is not a bad area people.I certainly never had any problems there and this dude comes in and breaks into someone's house??? Gets panties and is back at home within hours? BIG cover up, who does he know?

This is crazy last time i checked criminal trespassing is the charge you get for being on the property with criminal intent. The key words are "broke" and "entered". He could have made a phone call if that was the case. Can anyone spell the words "drug test" it's quite obvious this mans habit got the best of him

I think that there is more to this story. I think that was just a quick cover up. Would anyone trust this man to enter their home to possibly save their property or their life? Columbia County needs to take care of this ASAP.

This man should be charged with Breaking and Entering and not Criminal Tresspassing! Look up the definitions they are totally different! Would you want this man in your Fire Department? He needs to loose his job. I don't feel any different now that I know who he is, what does that matter, he broke into my neighbors house and he lives across the street and he was out in four hours. I do not feel safe anymore!
