CLEARWATER, S.C.---An eviction investigation led to a deputy being stabbed and a man shot. It happened around 3 o'clock this afternoon in a mobile home park off Cherokee Drive in Clearwater.
Two deputies were at 130 Thomas Park Road Lot 30 to verify an address for an eviction when an occupant became violent and stabbed one of the deputies in the leg. The other deputy attempted to TAZER the man, but he lunged again, at which point the deputy shot the man twice.
The first deputy and the man were taken to the hospital. The deputy's injuries were not life-threatening. The man who was shot was conscious when he was transported and was undergoing surgery at MCG late this afternoon.
The second deputy was uninjured.
Neighbors have identified the man as Chris Godbee. Lt. Michael Frank tells News 12 Godbee is known for causing trouble, both with his neighbors and his own family. However, Evelyn Waters, who says she has known Godbee since he was a child, says this is not true.
Since this incident involved law enforcement officials, the sheriff's office called in SLED to investigate.
