AUGUSTA, Ga.---Tips from the public are vital to help police catch criminals on the run. All too often, people aren't willing to talk at crime scenes because they're scared. Now Richmond County deputies have found a way around that fear.
"Our success by and large is based on the tips we get from the public," said Lt. Scott Peebles, criminal investigations. "A lot of the crimes we solve are based on information that we didn't have and probably would have never gotten had people never called it in, so we want to make it easy for people to access us."
The tip line number is 866-939-5050, and it's up and running now.
They really want information on gun crimes and gang problems. If you know anything, you're encouraged to call in.
