16-year-old shot and killed in Waynesboro

August 6, 2007

WAYNESBORO, Ga.---Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations are investigating a deadly shooting in Burke County that left a 16-year-old boy dead.

It happened around 10:45 Sunday night on the 1400 block of Westgate Drive in Waynesboro. A number of witnesses called News 12 saying they heard multiple shots fired, and investigators confirm that this was the case.

"Still under investigation," said Waynesboro Chief Investigator Gene Boseman. "We have several casings of two different weapons, so that's what we're looking into right now."

The victim's name has not been released yet, but News 12 has learned this same 16-year-old was shot three weeks ago in a separate incident.

There's no word on any suspects in this case. The chief investigator for the city of Waynesboro says this is the first murder he's seen in several years.

WITH THIS CASE I BELIEVE THAT MAN SHOULD BE GEORGIA HANDS RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IF THEY WHERE DOING THERE JOB RIGHT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TALKING TO THE PEOPLE WHO OWN OR RENTING THE HOUSE BECAUSE OUT OF ALL THOES PEOPLE THAT'S WAS IN THAT YARD THEY COULDN'T FIND SOMEONE TO GO FORTH WITH THE TRUTH NOW IF IT GOT ANYTHING DOING WITH DRUGS BURKE COUNTY WILL BE ON IT BUT WHEN A BABY GET KILLED THEY WILL LET IT TURN INTO A COLD CASE. THAT SAD IHOPE THAT WE AS BLACK PEOPLE DON'T LET THIS STAND BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A FUNNY MATTER OR A I HOPE MATTER WHEN A BABY HAVE NO LIFE AT ALL NOT TIME TO GET HIM A JOB FINISH SCHOOL THIS WAS A GOOD CHILD THAT WAS ALWAYS TREATED EVERONE WITH RESPECT NOW THE ONLY QUESTION WILL THEY RESPECT HIM ENOUGH TO TAKE TIME OUT AN FOUND WHO MUDER THIS BABY.

This has to be one of the saddest moments in the heart of Burke County right now. We have not only lost one of its life long residents, but a true soldier and survivor. This young man has been through so much to have only lived for a few years. I can remember so many times that i would see him and he would bring a smile to my face, no matter whether it was one of my worst days or one of my best. He has always had that "one special thing" about him that has set apart from others. To some he was a brother, nephew, or even a friend. To me, he was a symbol. A symbol of strength and courage and a symbol of a true "soul survivor". Damien Wright, you will always be remembered in the hearts of all that you have came into contact with. You will never be forgotten and may your spirit be with us forever more. REST IN PEACE,and may God be with your family at this time of grievance. YOU WILL BE MISSED DEARLY!!!!!!!
