AUGUSTA, Ga. - Three people were shot on the corner of Blakeley and Carver street in the Cherry Tree Crossing neighborhood.

"It's bad. They shoot around here all the time, but last night was bad," says Eula White. "I guess it started from a fight."

It was a fight that resulted in three people being struck by a bullet. Derek Gardner, 22, was shot in the neck and remains in critical condition. Daynel Jones, 19, was shot in the leg and has been released from the hospital and a female juvenile was also shot in the leg.

White says that it's not fair that her neighborhood has to go through things like this.

"The families were just so distraught. It didn't make any sense," says White.

Serloma Logan agrees. She says deputies patrol the neighborhood, just not enough.

"They ride through here all day long, but at night...that's when they need to be out there. Because that's when everything happens--at night," says Logan.

Neighbors don't think the incident is gang related. The five people that residents say were involved didn't live in the neighborhood. Albert Lawson, Jr. has lived in Cherry Tree Crossing for years and says it's sad to see today's youth spiraling out of control.

"See my generation, I couldn't walk out the door. If I did something wrong my neighbor whooped me and my parents whooped me when they found out what I did. Now, you can't whoop a child," says Lawson.

Neighbors say that the shooters arrived in a burgundy Suburban. Police do not have any suspects at this time. If you have any information, contact the Richmond County Police Department at (706) 821-1020.

I really do feel the pain and suffering of these residents. It is not fair to them that they have to constantly deal with the stupidity of others who choose not to respect their neighbors and community. We, as a people need to learn how to get along with eachother and learn how to not let simple things get us caught up in the heat of the moment and cause us to do things that will get us in trouble and in return, cause us to regret tht we ever did it. Also, there needs to be more law enforcement officers patroling the area. If the troublemakers see that they are actually being watched, then they just might get the picture that they can't be able to cause trouble all the time and get away with it.
