Augusta, GA---Two people are dead in a quiet neighborhood on Augusta's west side. Investigators believe it was a murder-suicide. It happened at 1015 Tradd Court, just off Augusta West Parkway, behind some doctor's offices.

"It's a very quiet, friendly and nice neighborhood," said Debora Higdon, who works in the area. But that image was shattered when neighbors who live and work in the area learned what happened inside this house. "I was shocked," she said.

Just before 6 a.m. 911 dispatchers got a call from Tradd Court. The caller, 64-year-old Robert Asmann, said someone had been shot and they needed to send police and a coroner. "We had a suicide note and a note left for family members at the scene," said Lt. Scott Peebles.

Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten says Asmann shot his former girlfriend, 49-year-old Marcia Wood, multiple times at the entrance foyer of his home, then put her in a coffin-like position with her hands across her chest. He says it's a common practice to see from a killer as a sign of remorse for his actions.

Authorities say the two, who lived next door to one another, had been dating several years when their relationship recently ended. "Apparently they had broken up and she started seeing someone else. What we think is she had gotten some of her belongings from his house and at some point this all unfolded," said Lt. Peebles.

Asmann died from a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at MCG.

Wood was an operating room nurse at Doctors hospital for the last 6.5 years. Doctors Hospital released a statement from their president and CEO, Shayne George:

"The medical staff, administration and employees of Doctors Hospital mourn the loss of Marcia Wood, RN. We are deeply saddened to hear about this tragic event. Marcia was an operating room nurse here at Doctors Hospital where she was part of our family. We are keeping her family in our thoughts and prayers."

Nobody has the right to judge anyone. If anyone thinks they are a better person than Mr. Asman they are wrong. We are all only human. This is a loss for everyone. It is wrong to say hateful things.

ending your own life is very selfish, but to bring an angel like marcia down with you is just cruel. there is no excuse to do something so EVIL. he made the choice to take his own life and leave his kids behind. marcia never wanted that. and it just shows what kind of person he was...abby, meredith, and family, you are all in my prayers.

Bob was not a good father. Maybe if his children had been there for him he wouldn't have done this. That "terrible thing" does make him a bad man. He is in Hell right now and no one wants to remember someone like that.

I knew Mr. Asmann. I always considered him to be level-headed, but apparently there was a lot going on beneath the surface. I am of the opinion that he should not be praised or remembered in the media. He was homicidal, and I don't care how "good to his kids" he was, nothing excuses what he did. I feel very sorry foe Ms. Woods family, no one should have to go through what they are going through.

True, he will be remembered.....just like Charlie Manson and Adolf Hitler. Only a coward would take his own life after killing an innocent person.

Oh, he'll be remembered...as a fool and a loser. All of the good he ever did was erased by his one selfish act of cowardly stupidity.
