AUGUSTA, Ga.---Two people are dead in an apparent murder-suicide. 49-year-old Marcia Wood, a nurse at Doctors Hospital, was found shot in the head inside the home of her next-door neighbor, 64-year-old Robert Asmann. The autopsy revealed Wood died of multiple gunshot wounds.
Investigators tell News 12 Wood and Asmann, who lived next door to each other on Tradd Court off Augusta West Parkway, had been dating for several years, but had recently broken up. They believe Asmann shot Wood, called 9-1-1, then shot himself.
Wood's body was located inside a bedroom, and Asmann was found in his backyard with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was later pronounced dead at MCG.
"Apparently they had broken up and she started seeing someone else," said Lt. Scott Peebles. "From what we know, she was supposed to get some of her belongings from his house, and at some point all of this unfolded while she was there."
Deputies say there are no signs of any drugs involved. Suicide notes were apparently found inside the home, but no details have been released.
We're told Asmann is a board member at one of the local credit unions.
"We are deeply saddened to hear about this tragic event," said Doctors Hospital president and CEO Shayne George in a statement. "Marcia was an Operating Room Nurse here at Doctors Hospital where she was part of our family. We are keeping her family in our thoughts and prayers."
