Harlem/Grovetown reverse 911 warns of burglars

June 21, 2007

COLUMBIA CTY, Ga.---A reverse 911 call was sent out to Harlem and Grovetown residents this afternoon about a couple in a light-colored, gray or tan van, posing as carpet cleaners. The message says the two are well dressed but are suspected burglars.

People are warned not to answer their door, and if they see the couple, to call 911 immediately.

I had a gentleman come to my house earlier this evening wanting to demonstrate a Kirby carpet cleaner. He pulled up in a light colored gray van and wanted my name, phone number, and address so he could let me know if I was the lucky winner of a big screen Magnavox color TV (I would be entered into a drawing after the presentation). He left me with a flyer that listed the sponsoring company as Kirby Time of Atlanta. Too much of a coincidence with the gray van and the carpet cleaning services. Unfortunately, I did not see this article until almost 11:00 p.m. I hope these are not the people who are being referred to in the article because that was too close for comfort.

I had someone knock on my door last Friday afternoon trying to get me to have my carpet cleaned. It was a girl. She tried to give me a coupon but I told her I rented and she got kinda smart so I closed the door. Was there a girl involved in this couple you're talking about?

Please give us a better description of the couple and the van. I might be looking for the same van and couple, if so, i might have some more clues for authorities.
