AUGUSTA, Ga --- An arrest in the stabbing death of an Augusta woman. Police say they have her husband in custody and they have the murder weapon.
Sixty-one year old Charles Perez is accused of stabbing his wife to death, fifty-seven year old Deborah Perez. Police say it happened overnight inside their 2702 Richmond Hill Road home. Their daughter, Norah McKnight discovered her mother's body around nine o'clock this morning.
"It has got scary recently," says Katie Williams. She lives alone and doesn't get out much. Because she's older she relies on a security system to make her feel safe. "I just turn it on and go to bed," she says.
But on days like these she wonders if it's enough.
"Could they break the security and come in here after me?" she asks. "They could do it."
Just a few houses down from Katie's -- a homicide investigation. The body of her fifty-seven year old neighbor found stabbed to death inside her home.
"We do have a direction that this investigation is going toward and it's possibly domestic. We're not ruling that out at this point," he says.
So Katie waches as police question her neighbors. "It used to be quiet through here," she says. She doesn't even recognize her street anymore. "At night there are cars going up and down that road like you wouldn't believe," she says.
But this morning those cars had sirens. And that scares her. "You know you don't know whether you're going to get knocked in the head but you can't let it worry you. You've got to hope things will be alright."
