The FBI and investigators in three counties are still looking for a serial robber who they say struck again twice over the weekend. The latest holdups are a drug store and hotel in Augusta, and investigators believe he's getting bolder each time.
Authorities say this is hit number eleven for the man who's being called the Bold Bald Bandit.
He started with a string of convenient store holdups, and his latest hits were a bank, hotel and drug store.
Brenda and Henry Edgewater say they had an almost a perfect visit to Augusta....but they decided to cut the long weekend a little short when the hotel where they were staying was held up.
"I was scared," Brenda said. "I was afraid. I didn't know whether he'd be coming back or what."
Investigators say Saturday morning a man tried to rob the Jameson Suites on Claussen Road. Officers say he is the serial robber who's been hitting up area stores left and right.
He didn't get away with money this time. Housekeeper Shirley Ware says that's because she and others in the lobby made so much noise.
"He took off running to the left, through the woods," she said.
But investigators tell us he wasn't done for the day. Later Saturday afternoon, he hit the Eckerd on Wheeler Road. This time he got away with money. That makes eleven incidents, including last Thursday (May 24)'s attempted robbery of the Regions Bank on Augusta West Parkway and eight convenient stores in Richmond, Columbia, and Aiken counties.
Investigators don't know a whole lot about this guy, but they are following several leads. They do know he's bald, he sometimes wears a hat, he's bold--rarely disguising himself--and he's busting in with a gun.
"If he's that bold to walk up in front of everybody with no disguise and try to rob people and hotels and banks, he got to be brave," Brenda Edgewater said.
If you have any information or know who the man is, you are asked to call authorities. If you see him, investigators say he may be armed. Witnesses say he's had an accomplice and he's been spotted on a black motorcycle and a silver four-door Mercury Sable.
