Burglar shoots homeowner

May 10, 2007

AIKEN, S.C.---An Aiken County woman was wounded when she returned to her home on Bent Arrow Road off Highway 19 and found a burglar inside.

Lt. Michael Frank with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office says the man was armed with a shotgun he found in the home.

When the woman got home, the burglar made her take him around the house and demanded money. The woman told him she didn't have any, and he took her to the backyard.

There, she managed to break free. The suspect then shot her in the back of the neck and the back with bird shot.

She was taken to Aiken Regional Medical Center. Her injuries are not life-threatening.

Aiken County deputies are looking for a man in his mid-20s, last seen wearing a white T-shirt and brown pants. He was driving the victim's dark blue 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck with a blue camper shell and the South Carolina license number 880 UCY.

If you've seen him, call the sheriff's office.

This is ridiculous. I feel for this woman. No one deserves to be treated in this way. (especially in their own homes.)
