AUGUSTA, Ga.---Richmond County investigators are looking for three men behind an armed robbery at the Budget Inn motel on Broad Street over the weekend.
Investigators say this is a case of friendship gone wrong.
Authorities believe Andre Brown, Gregory Humphrey, and an unidentified third partner held up Clifton Mitchell in his hotel room.
What makes this unusual? Officers say Brown and Humphrey were his friends.
"Humphrey showed up at the room and knocked on the door," Inv. Earnest Furgeison told News 12.
Investigators say the third, unidentified man not only hit Mitchell in the head with a gun, but then put the gun to Mitchell's back and stole $900 in cash and 24-inch gold chain.
"Before it happened, Brown asked Mitchell where he got the chain on his neck," Inv. Furgeison said. "He said he got the money from a large amount of money he got back from a tax return."
A woman who did not want to be identified told us she works in the area and saw the suspects running away. She says she's not surprised it happened in an area known for prostitution and drugs.
"I get nervous," she said. "You have to watch your back and you have to get know people around here. You have to be careful."
If you have any information, you're asked to call the sheriff's office at 706-821-1080.
Both men are wanted for armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Officers have a pretty good idea where these men are. Investigators believe the two suspects still live in the Underwood neighborhood and are often seen there.
Deputies say those two wanted men are also wanted for various other crimes.
