NEW ELLENTON, S.C.---An elderly couple's home broken into, a woman attacked leaving her salon, and another attempted break-in.

New Ellenton police say it may be one person doing it all.

Police say there's no doubt these crimes are definitely linked, and they're urging home and business owners to be extra cautious until this person is caught.

Beth Yonce says she is more than careful now, and never wants to relive the nightmare she went through.

You can clearly hear it in her voice. Yonce is still very shaken after being attacked in the parking lot of her beauty salon.

New Ellenton police are searching for the man who assaulted her and who they believe is also responsible for a series of home invasions that place on or near Riser Avenue.

Yonce says she is always careful leaving her business at night. The salon owner's arms were bruised during the attack, but she believes it could have been worse if she had not used her quick thinking to fight back:

Yonce is moving on and says that New Ellenton is still a safe town...but until this attacker is off the streets, she offers this advice to others, so they won't experience what she went through: have a plan when you're going somewhere at night, and don't go out alone.

That's also the advice from police.

The suspect is described as a black male with medium build, about six feet tall. He may be driving an older burgundy van.

One of the victims is offering a $5000 reward.

Obviously, the criminals are still on the loose as there have been more robberies, assaults, and auto theft in the area in 2008. Is it that the New Ellenton police and Aiken County Sheriff's office are completely oblivious to the problems in the area? Or are they too understaffed? Too incompetent? Or maybe New Ellenton has been deemed a low priority for them - if these crimes occurred in Aiken, you can be sure that they would be doing something about them!!
