Bus driver shot behind North Augusta Middle

February 2, 2007

Investigators have arrested a suspect after an early morning shooting behind North Augusta Middle School.

Booker T. McKenney of Belvedere was arrested without incident in Johnston in connection to the shooting of a school bus driver.

It happened on McKenzie Street around 6:45 this morning.

School bus driver Beryl Kinsey was picking up her bus from the bus barn when she was shot four times. She is in critical condition right now.

Police say McKenney was waiting for Kinsey in the bus, and he shot her after she drove out of the barn.

No students were on the bus at the time, and no students were hurt.

There is no word on whether McKenney and Kinsey knew each other, but investigators previously told News 12 they believed this shooting wasn't random and that the bus driver was targeted.

The school is not on lockdown.
