WARRENTON, Ga.---The Warren County High School principal is out on bond today after a grand jury indicted him on allegations of sexual misconduct.
It's a story you first heard here on News 12.
One day after the grand jury returned true bills of indictment on the principal, Thomas McDonald turned himself in to officials. Warren County school superintendent Carole Jean Carey tells News 12 McDonald has resigned as principal.
Warren County students and alumni alike are stunned today after a grand jury charged their school's principal with some disturbing allegations.
One former student says this just doesn't seem like him.
"I thought he was cool because he had a lot of discipline and control over the kids, and I thought he was doing good..." Shawan Hudson said.
Two months after the GBI launched an investigation, Principal Thomas McDonald is being charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes and solicitation of sodomy.
"This has been most unfortunate, and we're all learning how to deal with it now," said Warren County school superintendent Carole Jean Carey.
A 15-year-old high school female accused the principal of telling her he wanted to have oral sex with her, then telling her she could change in front of him. She says it all took place just before they left for the big game on November 18.
While many still say they stand behind their administrator, others say the allegations are too serious to go unnoticed.
"Warrenton schools need to be more careful about who they put in the school system, because it could've went a lot further than that, and the child could've been seriously injured or raped," Hudson said.
Superintendent Carey says McDonald was initially put on administrative leave with pay until McDonald asked the board to be placed on a leave of absence without pay. She says they are in the process of taking personnel action, and because they're still in the middle of it she's not able to comment on that matter.
