AUGUSTA, Ga.---A Cross Creek High School student says she was raped by a group of men.
Her grandmother tells News 12 the 18-year-old woman, who has a mental disability, never made it home Sunday night after going to a nearby friend's house.
She says her granddaughter met up with a male acquaintance at the home who drove her to an apartment across town. At that apartment, the grandmother told News 12, a group of ten men gave her alcohol and forced her to have sex.
The man who drove the young woman there apparently wouldn't drive her home, wouldn't let her use his cell phone, and told her not to tell anybody what happened.
"This is very uncommon, to have this many people raping one victim," Sgt. Calvin Chew of the Richmond County Sheriff's Department told News 12.
"My girl being preyed upon...I said, 'You're lucky, because you could have ended up dead'," the girl's grandmother told News 12.
She says her granddaughter has bruises all over her legs.
Officers have collected a rape kit, and the sheriff's office plans to talk to her and the men she's accusing tonight.
