GROVETOWN, Ga.--- A 41 year-old wife and mother, Laverne "Kay" Parsons died late Thursday afternoon after authorities say she interrupted a burglary at her home Wednesday morning.
As investigators continue to work neighbors in the Orchard Hill Subdivision say their hearts go out to the victim's family. The residents there simply say the news of Parsons' death is both troubling and saddening.
Jean and Ulysis Harmon live just a few blocks from where Parson was found severely beaten in the doorway of her garage. According to the incident report, investigators believe Parsons walked in on a burglary at her home and was met by at least one assailant. On Thursday night, the investigators were back - closely checking for more clues to find her killer.
Such a cold blooded crime has rattled neighbors like the Harmons.
"The place had policemen everywhere,"says Ulysis Harmon.
"It is a safe neighborhood. I was out in the yard working today this morning.," says Jean Harmon.
The Harmons have lived in the upscale neighborhood almost five years now and add that crime is unheard of because people there look out for each other.
While the couple did not know the victim, they say they still feel a sense of loss -and send condolences to Parson's family.
There are still no arrests in this case but anyone with information concerning the attack or burglary should call the Columbia County Sheriff's Office at (706) 541-2800.
