First on 12: Man wanted in Burke Co. nightclub shooting arrested

Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. -- Burke County deputies say an accused gunman in a deadly overnight nightclub shooting is in jail.

Investigators say 19-year-old Brandon Rashad Mickens was booked Sunday evening. We're told his father had him turned in to law enforcement.

The shooting happened outside Club 358 on Bates Road early Sunday morning. Deputies were called out to the club in reference to one person being shot.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Rockregas M. Sursson. Sursson was apparently walking to his car to get a CD for the DJ when deputies say Mickens opened fire.

He was transported to GHS Medical Center where he later died.

No motive is known at this time.

Mickens will be charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating.

The nightclub has been riddled with crime in the past. Two years ago, a man was killed in the club back when it was called Club Paradise.

Mickens was arrested earlier this summer for firing shots at a block party. He was charged with aggravated assault.

Deputies say the club will be shut down following this incident.
