AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Investigators have arrested two people for allegedly operating a meth lab and keeping a 3-year-old child inside the same room.

Amanda Woodward, 29, and Stephen Wiggington, 27, were arrested on Monday at America's Best Value Inn off Washington Road.

Deputies saw Woodward leaving the room and saw smoke coming out of the door. She yelled out that police were there and Wiggington opened the door. Investigators say there was a heavy chemical smell coming from the room.

The 3-year-old was taken to the hospital to be checked out. The child's grandmother was called to the scene.

Investigators from the Sheriff's Office cleared out the meth lab.

Woodward and Wiggington are charged with manufacturing meth and presence of children during the manufacture of meth.
