Couple accused of starving woman now faces murder charge

November 6, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga. --- The charges against a couple in the death of a malnourished woman have been upgraded to murder.

Jeanne and Buel Peterson are now charged with murdering 30-year old Christina Baxter, according to a news release from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Baxter, who was deaf and blind, was found dead outside the Peterson's Richmond County home last month. She was starved to death in the home, investigators said.

The Petersons were originally charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in Baxter's death. A grand jury upgraded the charge to Murder on Tuesday. The Petersons were taken into custody waiting for a bond hearing, according to a statement from Sgt. Richard Roundtree.

The home where the Petersons and Baxter lived has been condemned.

I think that the charge should be premeditated murder...these two "porkers" decided everyday not to feed Christine or to allow anyone else to provide for her care...I further think that the jury of peers should be those of Christene and not those of opportunists like Jeanne and Buel Peterson. It will be very interesting to see how complacent folks have become regarding disabled individuals...we are still not EQUAL.

Hallelujah! These 2 planned this crime and stuck with the plan until this poor young woman was dead. Poor thing was skin and bones! The Jury will see this, too.

The Grand Jury did the right thing. My friends and family did not understand how what they did was not murder. In fact, isn't there something like charging murder with extenuating circumstances which means it was even more cruel. How cruel to starve a person or animal! It is a shame they can not recieve the same treatment.

Thank god, Justice prevails....I was shocked to see they were "ONLY" charged with involuntary manslughter..maybe now Christina will have justice. Next I hope they Burn the house down and not expose us to the vermin and disease that will run all over our neighborhood if it is "MERELY" torn down....just riding by that house every day gives me the creeps.
