AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Druid Park Community Health Center prides itself on helping the uninsured. But today their doors were closed due to a break-in.

"Upon arriving for work today, I discovered telephone lines cut, power lines cut, power meter removed from its base and the back door torn out from the frame," said President and CEO Robert Williams.

Wood and debris covered the area around the back door. Officers say the power meter was taken in an attempt to disarm the alarm system. Luckily, the battery inside the system enabled it to still work.

"Apparently the battery on the alarm system caused the alarm to go off anyway, audibly, and that ran them out," said Williams.

Williams says the burglars didn't take anything. They just ransacked some of the exam rooms. But Williams says the break-in is not going to keep Druid Park Community Health Center from reopening its doors.

In fact, just a few hours after the break-in, workers came to repair some of the damages.

"We're here to stay and we're in the inner city because they're people who need what we do and we're not going anywhere," Williams said.
