Vandals hit high school at start of Homecoming Week

News 12 First at Five, October 15, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---It's Homecoming Week at Augusta's George P. Butler Comprehensive High School...but the week is off to a bad start after vandals struck early this morning.

The good news is there's a surveillance tape of the vandals in action.

Administrators discovered the Lumpkin Road school had been broken into when they arrived this morning. The break-in happened around 3:30.

The principal tells us he's not sure who did this, but he knows they came through the window. Nine classrooms were damaged. Drawers and desks were ransacked and the place was a mess. It took two hours this morning to clean it all up.

Nothing was stolen, and no one was hurt.

Students were temporarily moved to the gym, but by 9 o'clock they were back in classrooms and back to a normal routine.

Butler administrators and investigators are still reviewing the surveillance video.

I hope the parents of these so called "Children" don't expect the taxpayers of Augusta to pay for this. If they are caught, truly they should have been the ones to clean it up, if nothing else, they should have to do some kind of work to repay for the damage that was done. once again where were the parents?

Parents should know where there children are at all times. I know it is hard but if you stay on them and know what they are doing you may keep them out of a little bit of trouble. They should have to pay for the mess.

The parents of those kids should have to pay for the damage. The parents should know where their children are at 3:30am.
