Teenager convicted of rape gets probation

October 3, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---A teenager found guilty of raping a female student at Glenn Hills High School early this year was sentenced today.

Delone Kitchens, also known as Kitchings, was 16 at the time. He took the 15-year-old outside the school into some woods and raped her.

He could have faced ten years to life in prison, but the conviction was reduced to statutory rape, which is a misdemeanor, and Kitchens received 12 months probation.

Nobody I mean nobody deserves to be taken advantage of no matter how you look at it. He may not get what he deserves now but there is always later. I pray that she heals and move forward with her life

Overstreet did not reduce the charge to a misdemeanor that was a deal between the attorney's, the judge simply sentenced the defendant on the charge the DA presented to him. People should understand the system before they pop off.

The guy was 16 the girl was 15 they probably plan that. Because she could have screamed did anything to get someone attention but you no what she didn't want to. Then time someone catch them that's when shen holla rape. These teenagers know are doing anything. These girls sit up here they grown you can't tell the nothing they no everything. The boys are the same way. If someone took me in the woods to do that and I didn't want to do it you betta betcha I would not have gone. She knew the boy and both probably been talking to him all the time I think she should have been charge to with something.Did she holla out and say rape, did she try to fight him, was there any type of struggle no because thats what she wanted to do until she got caught.

I don't think he shouldn't of gotten 12months because she shouldn't of went in the woods with him. Instead they were suppose to be learning.
