Augusta, Ga (WRDW)---- Mothers from all across the area were invited to a community baby shower all organized by the Augusta Women's Health and Wellness Center.
"We obtained donations of new and gently used baby items for expecting mothers who need a little help," said the organizer.
Dr. Donna Adams-Pickett called sponsors to help get cribs, diapers, and even wipes for these moms, but she says one of the biggest gains for mommies will be some of the benefits ObamaCare could now give them.
"The Affordable Health Care Act does mandate that most insurance companies provided preventative coverage for all women," the doctor told News12.
But not everyone agrees with it or even knows what it's about.
"I don't particularly care for it," one mother told News12. And another said, "As of right now... Not really," talking about her knowledge on the new law.
The two mothers already have children but one's expecting another baby any day and the other just delivered one two weeks ago. The law will take full effect in 2014, but on Tuesday you'll be able to go online and check prices and coverage's. Coverage's that will cost the same for men and women and that will give maternity coverage to every mother. Something Shantina Robinson likes.
"It is needed because you do have to recuperate depending on how you deliver or what you actually went through during delivery." she told News12.
Birth Control will be covered at no charge and employers will also need to provide a private and more comfy area--other than a restroom-- to pump breast milk.
Something Sara Hoff isn't exactly sold on.
"It's overly emphasized now, but women have always found a way to pump," she said.
Whether you like it or not--CbamaCare is coming--and just like anything else education is the key.
"I really suggest women get well informed. There is so much available to them as long as they utilize their resources. No one is going to bring it to you---you have to to go looking for it," Dr. Adams-Pickett told News12.
