AUGUSTA, Ga. --- Electrolux is moving its customer service center to Washington Road, bringing over 200 jobs to the area. It's exciting news for job hunters.
"It's a big day for us," said Greg Bagwell, vice president of customer service. "Augusta is a large center for customer service, and we found employees that have many years of experience."
The customer care center will move from Bobby Jones, and they're committing to 225 jobs over the next three years.
"It absolutely will open up opportunities, because we have many jobs available in serving our customers," Bagwell said. "So even without customer service experience, we have opportunities."
Last year, Electrolux moved its headquarters from Augusta to Charlotte. Now it's bringing some business back.
"During that process, Electrolux had faith in the Augusta area workforce," said Henry Ingram, board chairman of the Development Authority of Richmond County. "They knew it would be wise to keep some jobs here in Augusta with the possibility of expansion. Today we're here to see the results of the vision."
The new and improved $2.5 million customer care center will field inbound and outbound calls.
"We believe that through the talent based here in Augusta, we will continue to grow and thrive as we take care of the customers who buy our many appliances each and every day," Bagwell said.
The company will renovate the old Dillard's building on Washington Road. The 84,000 square foot location is quite the upgrade, and the scenery doesn't hurt.
"What I love, it's in the gateway corridor of Washington Road," said Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver. "It's going to make a statement."
The state Department of Economic Development says they worked hard to get Electrolux to expand here, but Augusta also gets a nod.
"You've provided an absolutely wonderful community for a company to say, 'We want to continue in this region, this is where we want to be'," said Gretchen Corbin, department commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
Construction will start in the next few months, and the building will be open by fall.
