ORANGEBURG, S.C. (AP) — A warehouse company and its trucking affiliate are investing $10 million in Orangeburg and creating 100 jobs within five years.

Universal Trade Solutions Inc. and affiliate Fraley & Schilling Inc. announced Wednesday they're opening a manufacturing, warehousing and distribution center in the former Jacobs Applied Technology building.

Baltimore-based Universal Trade bought the 110,000-square-foot facility earlier this year. President John McCracken says the location was key, as the available building provided access to a rail spur and the Charleston port.

The companies will start by servicing up to 10 metal companies in the Southeast. They hope to secure business with automotive companies, and will perform metal processing for larger steel firms.

The state gave the company a $500,000 grant.

Several companies have occupied the building since Jacobs Applied moved in 1998.
