JONESVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Disney is closing its warehouse in South Carolina, barely a decade after it opened in one of the state's most struggling counties.
The Herald-Journal of Spartanburg reported Friday that Walt Disney Co. will close the warehouse by July 2011, leaving 150 people without jobs.
The South Carolina warehouse will be consolidated with the company's Memphis, Tenn., facility.
The Jonesville warehouse opened in 1999. People lining up to find out about jobs sang Disney songs as they waited. Signs in the parking lot are in the iconic Mickey Mouse shape.
Union County has struggled for decades since textile companies started leaving. The unemployment rate in April was 17.7 percent, fifth worst in South Carolina.
