CAMAK, Ga.---Just 3 months after fire destroyed the Timbermen plant in Camak, company leaders say a new building is in place and employees are returning to work.
The wooden pallet facility burned in early January, placing nearly a hundred jobs in jeopardy. Company leaders say they worked quickly to think of a plan that would return as many employees to work as possible.
Construction is almost complete on their new pallet warehouse, and daily operations have resumed. On average, about 160 employees are on payroll during a good economy, currently about 120 are active. Timbermen has also purchased a saw mill facility in Johnston, SC to provide more opportunities to workers.
Company leaders say they do not have a final estimate on damages the fire has cost, but repairs have been in the hundreds of thousands. Timbermen is Warren County's largest employer, and operates 3 different sites.
