AIKEN, S.C. -- At a Wednesday job fair at Aiken Tech, hundreds of people navigate the sometimes hazy job search process.
"So, I'm here trying to find a job that fits me," says Jermaine Reed.
"I went through the tight times," Tom Spillane says. "Now they're starting to loosen up, so it's getting better."
Spillane armed with a brief case full of resumes and hope. This job fair, he says, is the most promising.
"Usually they just give you a website to email your resume in," he said. "Here they took a couple of applications."
And some employers are actually hiring. But people outnumber the jobs, and employers are tightening their standards.
"The job skills are not matching the job openings the employers might happen to have at this time," said Aiken One Stop Career Center's Helen Bratton.
"The only thing with me is my age," Spillane said. "That's a definite throwback on me. But what are you going to do?"
Said a smiling Reed: "Oh, I'm confident today. I will find me a job today."
"It's not going to happen overnight," added Bratton. "Looking for a job is a full-time job."
