Augusta jobless rate over ten percent

AUGUSTA---In another sign that the tough times aren't over yet, the jobless rate in the metro Augusta area is now over ten percent, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.

The rate increased nearly one full percentage point from May's 9.2 percent rate. In June it was 10.1 percent.

Nearly 500,000 people in Georgia are looking for work, and a third of them are getting state jobless benefits.
