SAVANNAH RIVER SITE, S.C. --- Thousands of jobs are available and more than a billion dollars are pumping right into the area to boost our economy. We take you behind the scenes at SRS as they mark a milestone today. We also show you the work that is being done by the new hires.

For months, John Raeth looked for work. "Oh, very excited (now). I mean, I was like falling all over myself," says John.

He is now one of the 300 plus newly hired at the Savannah River Site. "I actually feel like this is one of the best kept secrets," says John.

But, what isn't a secret is that more than a thousand jobs are open and the site is looking for you to help fill some of them by September.

Pam Griffin is another one of the recently hired. She has a son in college, hitting her pocket hard, so "just the mere fact I have a position now, I'm thankful."

John and Pam are just two examples of many needed to help speed up the cleanup of radioactive waste at the site.

On Wednesday a truckload of waste left the site, to mark the milestone 1,000th such truck to leave the site.

"This is good for the nation, this shipment," says SRNS President Chuck Munns. "It's good for the region and it makes me proud to be able to do it."

"I'm very proud of the work that they've done," says SR-DOE Manager Jeff Allison.

With all of these new jobs, 5 truckloads will leave per week, compared to just 2 before. There also appears to look like a grassy knoll on the site, but we're told it really is some of the most dangerous waste here. Its waste the new hired will help dispose of, quickly.

"Now that I'm here, I realize how badly they need good, quality people," says John. About 3000 quality people are needed to make this site and your neighborhood safer.

We're told no exact date is set yet for a job fair in Aiken, but it's likely going to be in August. We'll let you know the date as soon as we find out.
