AUGUSTA---A local business is restructuring and as a result, approximately 40 people will be without a job. Minnesota based G&K Services confirms that they are converting the local G&K Services production plant to a “branch”.
A plant, in their terms, is a location to process laundry (uniforms, mats, shop towels, etc.). A branch is a hub where they run trucks out of for deliveries. A plant has production people, a branch has sales and delivery people.
Currently, Augusta has both a plant and a branch. The production or plant portion is being moved to Buford and Charlotte and those people are the ones who will be out of a job come May 8. The sales and service staff locally will retain their jobs.
G&K Services is based out of Minnetonka, Minnesota and has over 170 locations across the United States and Canada.
