AUGUSTA, Ga. --- Landing a job can be a challenge these days. With more people out of work, there's more competition.
"And now in today’s economic times, you're seeing layoffs of some very qualified people that have been in the jobs, their same jobs for years and years and years," Kerry Ezzell said.
Kerry Ezzell is the regional sales coordinator for Aflac in Augusta. Just last month, he went to a job fair and says 263 people came through, of those, five people were offered a job and three of them took it.
"We massively interview and we very selectively hire and like I mentioned previously. What we're seeing is that the candidates that are available are being the B+'s and the A's," Ezzell said.
And that's why he says you need to put your best foot forward, and dress for the job you want, not the job you have. So what can you do to set yourself apart from everyone else? Haines says do some research on the companies that are hiring.
"With the market being in a recession right now, now's probably the best time to be looking for a job because the companies, who are looking for employees, are the ones who are stable. And the ones that are thriving even in these hard economic times," University of Phoenix Vice President/Director, Asher Haines said.
And with more than 35 employers looking to hire, hundreds of people will get a shot at securing a job. The Career Expo starts at 9:00 a.m. and goes till 2:00. It's at the University of Phoenix which is located at 3150 Perimeter Parkway, that's just past the Double Tree Hotel in Augusta.
