AUGUSTA, Ga.-- It may be hard to picture now, but in a few months the Family Y pool in Augusta will be filled with hundreds of kids and the lifeguard chairs will be filled with new employees.
Right now the Family Y is hiring 50 lifeguards, and they hope to have those positions filled by the middle of May.
The Family Y says they have 200 jobs open for summer. A pretty big number!
"I can't imagine anybody else having more seasonal jobs than what we offer for our camp programs. We offer a lot of opportunities for our college kids, especially our education majors to come out and get experience as well as having a summer job," Jeff Yant said.
But with unemployment on the rise, it's more competitive this year.
"We do have an opportunity to be a little more selective. Because we do have a large number of people looking for jobs now, which it's good for us, but tougher for them I think in a little bit of an aspect, but it gives us the best quality of people that we can find for these programs," Yant said.
Jeff says more than 200 people have already applied and he's expecting a lot more. Each Family Y branch has their own camp, and they're all looking for hourly camp counselors. There are also resident camp counselors who stay on property all summer at Camp Lakeside.
But time is ticking. The Family Y says now is the time to start looking and applying for that summer job before it's too late.
The Family Y hopes to have all 200 positions filled before May. So if you're interested you can stop by any Family Y branch and pick up an application.
