Tubing maker to add up to 200 jobs in Abbeville

February 11, 2009

ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A plant that makes hoses and tubing in South Carolina says it plans a $5 million expansion that could create as many as 200 new jobs.

The Index-Journal of Greenwood reported Wednesday that Flexible Technologies currently has 237 employees at its three plants around Abbeville.

Abbeville County Director Scott Moulder says the expansion shows the county's economy can still grow in tough times. The county's unemployment rate was 11.4 percent in December.

Flexible Technologies makes flexible hosing and rigid tubing to heat and move liquids in airplanes, medical devises and other industrial machines. The company is a subsidiary of Flex-Tek, which is part of the global technology company Smiths Group.
