AUGUSTA, Ga.---Local unemployment offices are seeing the effects of the economy everyday, as more and more people are without work.

David Bunch enjoys being a volunteer youth pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church. Now he has much more time to devote to it, since just Sunday, he lost his paying job at Thermal Ceramics.

"At one point I was a bit, I don't want to say distraught, but it challenges your thinking," says Bunch.

With his wife still working, his household income for six is now cut in half. At a time when finances are already rough, they need to decide what's not really a staple in their budget.

"Some of those things may have to be cut out, cell phones, stuff like that," said Bunch.

He is very much not alone, which he saw first-hand during his first trip to the unemployment office

"You see people in there from all walks of life," he said. "This is something that's affecting everybody across the nation. It does not matter who you are, and where you're from."

Where Bunch is from, though, is helping keep him optimistic. He moved here from New Orleans, just more than three years ago, right after Hurricane Katrina.

"Dealing with that whole ordeal, it taught me some stuff, that I can make it. If I can make it through that, I can make it through this," said Bunch. "It's just kind of like a speed bump of life. We all go through them."

He's left sorting through his unemployment paperwork, hoping to find another job soon. That's something not easy these days, but made easier for Bunch through faith.

"Pray for everybody next to us because it's affecting everybody," says Bunch.
