AUGUSTA, Ga.---One of the world's largest business outsourcing companies is taking root in Augusta. That will mean hundreds of new jobs for the area. It is a plus during such hard economic times.

Construction is in the final stages on what is a massive structure. It covers more than 34 acres.

The sparks are flying, and construction crews are walking tall. They are preparing to open ADP. It is a project of historic proportions.

"Absolutely," said Steve Penrose who is VP of Operations for the company. "This is our biggest construction project that we have in the United States."

Steve Penrose is not sparing any expense. He's investing $40 million in the local economy.

"I hope it shows a financial commitment to the community," said Penrose. "We're literally here for the long haul. We're not here to put some jobs in and then leave."

All of this is taking place when many suggest we're facing the greatest economic crisis since the great depression.

"It's unusual I know," said Penrose. "There are so many companies not as fortunate as we are."

ADP provides services to 1 in 6 people in the United States. Last year's revenue topped out at $9 billion.

"I drive by on a regular basis, and it certainly helps my confidence in the local market place," said Augusta mayor Deke Copenhaver.

The building is a 160,000 sq. ft. building, but it's not just a big building. It has some pretty big concepts, too. The wiring and air conditioning is under the floor, and if you think that's cool, the company is promising more than 1,000 jobs over the next 3 years.

"We are truly blessed," said Mayor Copenhaver.

City leaders call the project a shot in the arm for the local economy.

"We're in for some rocky times," said Mayor Copenhaver. "But Augusta is so well positioned when the national economy turns, we're gonna be okay."

Steve Penrose plans to do his part to help.

"Something we feel is very important is going back to the community, and hopefully giving jobs to the community," said Penrose.

We should point out they're also keeping the project local by working with an area construction company. Workers hope to have the first phase of the project done within the next 39 days so that associates can begin moving in.

The grand opening is scheduled for March.

ADP stands for Automatic Data Processing. The company provides services like company payrolls, 401 k's, and retirement services. Salaries are expected to range from $20,000 to $60,000.
