AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A new company is opening doors for hundreds of local job seekers. Convergent ER Solutions is showing off its new home on Stevens Creek Road.
140 positions will be filled by the end of this year. By 2011, all 400 jobs will be hired.
"I look for people that are energetic, outgoing, willing to talk to people on the phone, and people that have a really friendly voice about them," said site director Bob Nelson.
The first training session begins August 16. Recruiting Convergent is a win for the Development Authority of Richmond County. But they say they're not resting.
"The trips we have planned to New York, to Dallas, to see these people who can bring these jobs to Augusta," said Development Authority of Richmond County Executive Director Walter Sprouse.
Sprouse is hoping more companies follow Convergent.
"We're working about 19 or 20 projects right now. We won't get all of them. We'd love to."
More companies have made announcements or relocated to the area. Caraustar is bringing about 15 jobs. Aiken's MCA Media is employing about 50 of the 125 jobs it announced. And 250 jobs are expected for Graniteville's MTU Detroit Diesel over the next few years.
"We want to continue to work as hard as we can to make sure if there's anyone in Augusta who wants a job, they will have that opportunity to apply for one," adds Sprouse.
