Regency Mall owners in 'talks with potential buyer'

AUGUSTA, Ga.---It has been empty for years, but the owners of Regency Mall say they may be close to finally doing something with the property.
They sent a letter to the city of Augusta saying they are in talks with a potential buyer. The license and inspections department says demolition is an expensive idea that the city would have to fund. They are hopeful a deal is secured.
"What we are going to do is try to get the owner to be more responsible for the property than he has been," said Rob Sherman who is director of the department.
The Augusta commission has tasked Sherman's department to go back out and inspect the building.
Owners say they plan to seal off entrances and exits to the mall if talks with a buyer are not successful.
