New manufacturing facility to be built in Augusta

Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Rockwood Holdings will be building a new facility in Augusta, according to a news release from the Augusta Economic Development Authority.

Rockwood Color Pigments and Services division will build the North American synthetic iron oxide production facility that will invest $115,000,000 and create from 80 to 100 jobs in the South Augusta area. It will produce synthetic iron oxide pigments to be used to color products for construction, coatings, plastics and specialties.

The announcement was made by the Authority, along with the Georgia Department of Economic Development.

In making the announcement, Augusta Economic Development Authority Chairman Henry Ingram said, "Rockwood is an outstanding company with a worldwide reputation for excellence. The coloring product to be made here in Augusta by Rockwood Pigments will enhance the appearance of our world. Rockwood's new manufacturing facility in Augusta will strengthen the company's customer service, reduce transportation costs and improve product development potential within the United States."

Sprouse said the facility will be the first new synthetic iron oxide pigments production plant in the U.S. in nearly 35 years.
