MCCORMICK, S.C. (WRDW) -- "We're really looking to the future," said Owner/Operator Austin Trupp.

And the future is looking bright now that the Savannah Lakes Resort in McCormick has reopened after shutting down in 2010.

"We actually needed to close the property because of the overall economic condition, lack of credit, those kind of things," Trupp said. "It needed to be reopened, and we're excited about being able to host guests again here."

Trupp and his wife have been running the resort since 2004.

And with the reopening came renovations.

"We have a miniature golf course, outdoor swimming pool, a white sand beach, tennis courts, hiking and biking trails," Trupp said.

And this reopening might be a good sign for all.

"It's sort of a microcosm of the overall economy," Trupp said. "This thing went through a downturn and is now reemerging as the economy reemerges."

Savannah Lakes Resort is 10.5 acres of fun in the sun. At less than an hour from the Augusta area, it might be the perfect place for folks still looking for lodging during the Masters.

And it's not the first walk around the resort for this couple.

"We've been in this business for a long time -- it's what we know, it's what we do and it's what we love," Trupp said.

And that love is shared by the entire community.

"It will do good for the community since we have a small community," said Anthony Talbert.

Talbert has lived in McCormick his entire life.

"I think it will be a great help, you know -- more jobs, more recreation," he said.

And others, like Huddle House Manager Laura Hardy, are even more excited about more people coming through town.

"I would like to this, it's good for the community, any time -- small town like McCormick ... we need to grow a little bit," she said.
