Ga. tax collections rise during month of August

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia tax collections rose more than 9 percent compared to the same month the year before.

State officials said that individual income tax collections rose by 13.4 percent, while corporate tax collections increased 14.2 percent.

Sales tax revenues inched up 3.4 percent. Motor fuel taxes increased 7.5 percent.

Gov. Nathan Deal said he was encouraged by the results, considering the global economic turbulence.

But he said that uncertainty has made him cautious about the months ahead.

For the fiscal year that began July 1, tax collections are up by 8.2 percent.
