WASHINGTON, S.C. -- The city of Barnwell, along with the Southern Carolina Regional Development Administration, will be receiving money to make critical water infrastructure improvements. These improvements will be made to support a new manufacturing firm that will be moving into the South Carolina Advanced Technology Park.
The park is near the Barnwell County gate to SRS.
The grant of $1.5 million will create jobs by providing improvements that will bring a new advanced technology manufacturing firm to the area.
The manufacturing process will use advanced post-consumer fiber recycling process in the production of parent tissue rolls. According to the release, 100 percent of the raw product is post-consumer waste which will reduce wood use, total energy used, greenhouse gas emission, wastewater production and solid waste production compared to traditional production of similar product.
According to grantee estimates, this project is expected to create 200 jobs and generate $140 million in private investment.
