News 12 reported the North Augusta Dollar Tree's computers were hacked after the IP address was stolen last weekend. Multiple employees confirmed the report Monday.

Though Dollar Tree's corporate office did not respond before Monday's report, they contacted News 12 Tuesday. Tim Reid, the VP of Investor Relations for Dollar Tree, sent this email.

"Regarding the story last evening, we looked into the issue today and here's what we found. The communication between the store and our network was down temporarily due to a loss of the store's data connection. Connectivity resumed on Saturday, December 12. All data was secure at all times and remains so."

Reid says employees who originally confirmed the report did not receive the entire story of the incident, which he says was not related to computer hacking or identity theft.
