AUGUSTA---One way to help pay off debt is with your tax return. Hard to believe tax season starts in just a few weeks.
What can you do today or tomorrow to help beef up that refund? H&R Block says there are a few things.
You can still make a donation to charity before tomorrow night.
But if you're a business owner planning to make a big purchase. Do it now and write it off for this year.
Also, you can make your mortgage payment for January in December. By doing that, you'll have more interest to deduct for this next tax return.
Lastly, you can also pay up front for next year's day care or summer camp and you can write that off now too.
Beyond this, start getting your paperwork together to get your taxes filed.
"At this time, for any contributions you can look for canceled checks with the receipt. Also watching the mail for W-2's and bank statements for mortgages." said Steve Harvey of H&R Block.
